My advice, be patient, study the map, do your best to learn cryllic basics to pay attention to the roadsigns and lastly try to enjoy your current ignorance of the game becuase once you know where everything is much of the mystery, thrill and danger is gone.

And don't even bother with the stupid airfield, thet's just following the rest of the 5th graders lol. Kids always stampede toward the same areas with the gear. I mean yeah, it looks pretty cool now, but if it's military loot you're after, there are tons of places way closer to the coast where you can gear up.

Check road signs to figure out where you are. Some are bulletin boards by the park service, others are actual folded maps you can take with you. However, iZurvive is going to be your best bet right now, along with the interactive map you can find in the guides section of DayZ on Steam. It's pretty accurate, and can display stuff iZurvive doesn't, and vis versa.
